Bedtime Secrets

Time to put on your onesy, and get your favorite pillow, because this week we’re having a slumber party!

A Kept Secret

This portrait was taken with a one second exposure, meaning that there is now way for it to be sharp! Just to take care of those photo snobs who think that unless everything is tack sharp, it’s not a good piece. As shown by my other posts, I have no trouble with getting a sharp image. “So why, Jessie, did you chose to shoot this with such a slow shutter speed?”- you ask me?

The “normal” exposure time for images is 1/125 sec. Faster than our conscious brains can process information. With a one second exposure, the photographer captures not just a flash of an image, but everything the subject experienced during that one second. The theory is with this, and longer, exposure, the photographer is able to take a more truthful portrait….and their soul! (sorry, I couldn’t help myself!)

This image is an experiment. I wanted to see if by playing with perspective, I could create the illusion of a girl floating out of her bed (no Photoshop allowed!)

I love this image, especially for something I thought of on the fly! When my model and I just start goofing around and making this sort of creative synergy is when I get my best portraits!
