Hiding In My Closet…

A Self Portrait

A Self Portrait

A Self Portrait for #tbt
Isn’t funny how we can forget the person we used to be? I’ve been doing a lot of growth and self-improvement lately. So when I rediscovered this photograph I was kind of blow away by how the “person I am trying to be” was sitting there looking up at me from the past.

Now, I’m not saying I want to revert to that person I was. I’ve learned a lot since then and grown in many good ways. However, I’ve also been knocked around by life a lot since then, and I think I lost a few things I loved very much on the way.

I’m not sure exactly what the lesson here is. If there is one at all.

I just wanted to share this little part of my personal journey; something I’ve never been that interested in doing in the past. I’m very excited to see where my long and winding road takes me.

What else will I find

as I chip away at my cocoon

and reveal the girl inside?

Bedtime Secrets

Time to put on your onesy, and get your favorite pillow, because this week we’re having a slumber party!

A Kept Secret

This portrait was taken with a one second exposure, meaning that there is now way for it to be sharp! Just to take care of those photo snobs who think that unless everything is tack sharp, it’s not a good piece. As shown by my other posts, I have no trouble with getting a sharp image. “So why, Jessie, did you chose to shoot this with such a slow shutter speed?”- you ask me?

The “normal” exposure time for images is 1/125 sec. Faster than our conscious brains can process information. With a one second exposure, the photographer captures not just a flash of an image, but everything the subject experienced during that one second. The theory is with this, and longer, exposure, the photographer is able to take a more truthful portrait….and their soul! (sorry, I couldn’t help myself!)

This image is an experiment. I wanted to see if by playing with perspective, I could create the illusion of a girl floating out of her bed (no Photoshop allowed!)

I love this image, especially for something I thought of on the fly! When my model and I just start goofing around and making this sort of creative synergy is when I get my best portraits!

 Left Behind

I have been, as of late, very inspired by the idea of toys forgotten/dropped/left behind, and the reasons for this abandonment.
